Britney Huynh, Choral Assistant
Britney grew up as a band person, and her discovery of choir in the final year of high school blazed the path to a career in singing.
She holds bachelor’s degrees in both music and education from the University of Alberta, where she studied with Elizabeth Turnbull and sang with the Madrigal Singers and Chorale Saint-Jean. A course with Dr. Timothy Shantz ignited a passion for choral conducting that eventually led Britney to the University of British Columbia, where she completed a Master’s of Music in choral conducting under the supervision of Graeme Langager and Hyejung Jun.
While at UBC, Britney was choral assistant to five choirs with 350 choristers, and performed with the Vancouver Chamber Choir and the BC Youth Choir. Since returning to Edmonton, Britney has performed with Chronos Vocal Ensemble and Pro Coro Canada, and undertaken apprenticeships with both Pro Coro and the Alberta Youth Choir.
The 2024-2025 Season will be Britney's second year with Vocal Alchemy.
Michelle Verhey, Administrator
Michelle Verhey joined her first adult choir in 1999, shortly thereafter joined the board, and has been involved in Alberta’s non-profit sector ever since. She has two boys, and started volunteering for their activities too, beginning with playschool, then the school PAC, and later band manager and President of the Edmonton Youth Pipe Band.
Michelle also spent more than seven years managing a community league, doing everything from bookkeeping to hall rentals, and also overseeing a playschool. There have been so many casinos! Michelle sang with Vocal Alchemy from 2013-2015 and is thrilled to be returning to such a great organization.
